Tate Taylor: Get On Up

August 3, 2014 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The life of “the hardest working man in showbiz” is chronicled in Get On Up, Director Tate Taylor’s biopic of the legendary soul singer James Brown.

In the film, Taylor takes us on a journey through Brown’s rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history and earn the nickname “the Godfather of Soul.”

Taylor spoke about the making of Get On Up in a conversation moderated by Director John Landis (Burke and Hare) following the DGA Membership screening in Los Angeles on August 3.

In addition to Get On Up, Taylor's work includes the feature films The Help, Pretty Ugly People and the short Chicken Party. Taylor joined the DGA in 2010.
