From May 2 - 12, Visual Communications presented a program of feature films, shorts and videos during the 29th edition of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF).
As part of its continuing outreach to independent filmmakers on May 3, the Guild hosted a brunch for LAAPFF Filmmakers where DGA Asian American Committee (AAC) Co-Chair Emeritus Henry Chan spoke to the participants about the ever-changing workplace and the advantages of DGA membership. The brunch was also attended by current AAC Co-Chairs Lisa Chu and Ron Dempsey, and former Co-Chair Chris Tashima, who were there to answer questions about the Committee and the Guild.
A key highlight of the Asian Pacific Heritage Month activities, LAAPFF is Southern California’s premier showcase for Asian Pacific cinema. Since 1983, the Festival has presented nearly 4,000 and videos by Asian international and Asian American artists. This year's LAAPFF presented a slate of 140 feature-length and short films, plus panels, workshops, special events, and parties at various venues such as the DGA’s Los Angeles Theater complex, CGV Cinemas, and The Art Theatre of Long Beach.
