OUT OF THE PAST

COMEDY LEGENDS: Can you spot the comedy legends? In the center is director/producer Sheldon Leonard whose list of television classics includes Make Room for Daddy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., My World and Welcome to It and I Spy. Leonard also brought his business and directing savvy to the office of DGA Secretary-Treasurer and served the Guild in numerous capacities for many years until his death in 1997. For his service to the Guild, he was honored with the Robert B. Aldrich Award in 1988. To the right of Leonard, wearing glasses and a tie, is then AD Jay Sandrich. Sandrich began as a 2nd AD on I Love Lucy and later served as Leonard's AD on Make Room for Daddy. Sandrich would create his own sitcom directing legacy helming The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Soap and The Cosby Show to name but a few. (Photo Courtesy of Sheldon Leonard)
