Ssong Yang

Director

Ssong Yang is an award winning commercial director and filmmaker with a passion for elevating innovation and social impact. Her work has been featured in Cannes Lions, Adweek, TED, Forbes, a prize winner at the Young Directors Award and aired a primetime spot during the 89th Academy Awards.

Her background includes fine arts education at the Cooper Union, Photography Studies at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Art in Paris, and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design for Film/Animation/Video. The core training of her film foundations include directing, editing, film theory, and audio design.

She is known for her work with Google Maps for the spot “Homeward Bound,” which went on to become the Academy Awards nominated film, “Lion” starring Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, and Dev Patel. Her award winning music video for Hozier “From Eden '' is a prime example of her docu/narrative, non-linear visual style of storytelling. Deeply inspired after working with Shonda Rhimes for Dove’s Real Beauty campaign, Ssong is always looking for ways to uplift stories of underrepresented voices in the media landscape.

Having visited over 41 countries for solo-travel and film shoots, Ssong has developed a penchant for getting lost somewhere new during her travels and finding her way out without the help of a GPS. It’s extremely inconvenient, disorienting, and unfamiliar, which is the reason why she loves it.

She is currently signed with Station Films for commercial representation and is a collaborative member for the creative team henry/ssong.
