Kris Lefcoe

Director

Kris Lefcoe is a director-writer whose work has screened at SXSW, TIFF, IFC, and the Sundance Channel. Her half-hour pilot "Giving Up," executive produced by David Wain, won top prizes at New York Television Festival and Seriesfest, and was developed with Imagine Television.  In 2020, Kris made her TV directing debut on NBC’s “Superstore.”

Kris' audacious feature debut, the audience-award-winning dark comedy "Public Domain," premiered at SXSW, and was installed at Art Basel Miami. The film was hailed by critics as "creepy-funny and well-acted" (Variety), and "an assured debut" (Austin Chronicle).

Kris’ intricate animated short “Tiny Riot Project” premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam, then sold to the Sundance Channel. Kris developed the concept into a stopmotion series with Shadowmachine Films.

Her Twilight-Zone-esque short “Can I Get a Witness?” premiered at TIFF and screened at the British Film Institute.

Kris’ explosive music videos have garnered numerous nominations and awards, including the Peaches smash "Boys Wanna Be Her," and two for hiphop duo POW’s, one shot in a federal penitentiary while the group was incarcerated, and the other, winner of Best Video at the Ottawa International Festival of Animation.

Kris is an alumna of the 2022 DGA Episodic Mentorship Program, 2019/2020 NBC Female Forward / Emerging Directors program, as well as IFP Film Week, TIFF Talent Lab, Just For Laughs Comedy Exchange, and the Directors Lab at Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Center.

Kris is currently co-creating/writing a new series in development with Pebble Pictures Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Mary Rohlich (“Atypical”), with Victor Nelli ("Superstore," “Ugly Betty”) as EP. An accomplished musician, Kris is also recording her first solo album “The Naked Tapes.”

Kris teaches on the faculty of the MFA Film and Television program at Stonybrook University, SUNY. She lives in a long-forgotten borough of NYC called Manhattan.
