DGA Los Angeles Theater Project Update

Theater Project 2019

August 20, 2019

In September, the DGA will pull back the curtain on the upgrades to the Guild’s Los Angeles Theater. The project — which has been going on since March of 2019 — is designed to maximize the on-going efforts to provide our members with the most optimal theatrical viewing experience and with upgrades to both audio and projection systems in Los Angeles Theater One.

These upgrades feature the installation of a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos surround sound system and a Dolby Vision laser projection system, considered the gold standard for screening rooms. The theater will continue to have 35mm and 70mm capabilities as well as a Xenon 4K digital projection system.

The work on the projection booth has been completed and new carpeting has been installed in the theater along with a T-Coil assistive listening device. There is also a new projection screen and curtain, as well as a masking system and new wall fabric. The theater complex’s 30-year-old HVAC system has also been replaced and the work on the new lobby restrooms has been completed.

During the renovation period, all DGA screenings have taken place five blocks east of Guild Headquaters at the Harmony Gold Preview House. DGA membership screenings will return to our own theater in late September, along with the annual COLCOA French Film Festival.

More on the Los Angeles Theater opening will be featured in here online and in the next issue of DGA Monthly.
