DGA Committees Elect Co-Chairs

The African American Steering Committee, Asian American Committee, Eastern Diversity Steering Committee, and Women’s Steering Committee have completed elections for their co-chair posts. The current co-chairs are:

Directors Jeff Byrd, Oz Scott and Carl Seaton have been elected co-chairs of the African American Steering Committee (AASC). The AASC was born of a desire to address the specific needs of the African-American members of the DGA. The committee meets monthly planning events throughout the year celebrating the achievements of African-Americans, as well as forums with industry executives pro-actively addressing what can be done to hire more African-Americans.

Director Kabir Akhtar and Second Assistant Directors Lisa Chu and Ron Dempsey have been elected co-chairs of the Asian American Committee (AAC). The AAC was created as a networking group to provides a forum for interests and problems that concern Asian-American Guild members. Through outreach efforts in the entertainment industry, the committee provides a variety of networking opportunities as well as screenings, seminars and discussions with industry professionals.

Second Assistant Director Jason Hightower, First Assistant Director Rebecca Strickland and Associate Director Joyce Thomas have been elected co-chairs of the Eastern Diversity Steering Committee (EDSC). The EDSC represents the concerns of members of African, Asian, Native American, Arab-Middle Eastern or Latino descent residing in the East. Committed to improving employment opportunities, working conditions and skills of ethnically diverse members, the EDSC sponsors workshops, seminars, and networking events to showcase their talents, recognize their contributions, and increase their visibility in the industry.

Directors Bethany Rooney, Millicent Shelton and First Assistant Director Liz Ryan have been elected co-chairs of the Women’s Steering Committee (WSC). The mission of the WSC is to represent the interests and needs of the women members of the DGA, help promote employment of women and achieve parity in the workplace. All women members of the Guild are invited to attend WSC meetings and events and to share in the benefits that come from cooperative activity. The WSC also presents networking events throughout the year.
