On October 16, 2nd AD DGA members from the Eastern region came together online for an invitation only event. Hosted by the Eastern AD/UPM Council’s 2nd AD Committee, What Comes Next: Building Longevity & Financial Stability, featured discussions about career longevity and financial planning.
In part one, Navigating Your Career, UPM Greer Yeaton (Power Book II: Ghost) discussed how 2nd ADs can achieve career longevity during a conversation moderated by 2nd AD Committee member Eddie Griffith (No Sudden Move). Yeaton covered subjects including the importance of gaining experience through working on projects that challenge you, how to stay relevant through networking, and when it is appropriate to negotiate.
The second half of the event, Building Longevity and Financial Stability as a 2nd AD, was a discussion about financial planning, featuring David Maurice Sharp, the author of The Thriving Artist: Saving and Investing for Performers, Artists, and the Stage & Film Industries. In a conversation moderated by 2nd AD Committee member Alana Bonilla (Prodigal Son), Sharp discussed how to be financially stable in a freelance industry and gave tips on how to invest and build savings.
Following the moderated discussions, the panelists fielded questions from the online audience.
About the Committee
The Eastern AD/UPM Council Second Assistant Directors Committee addresses issues that concern the members of this category and encourages dialogue amongst members in an effort to bring awareness, devise solutions to problems and continue education and growth.
