From May 3-12, the 34th edition of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) presented a program of nearly 200 feature-length and short films, filmmaker panels, special presentations, parties, and more at various venues around Los Angeles, including the DGA’s Los Angeles Theater complex.
On May 4, filmmakers with projects in this year’s LAAPFF attended a brunch at hosted by the DGA where they heard a welcome from Asian American Committee (AAC) Co-Chair Kevin Berlandi (Hana Grows a Tail), who spoke about the work of the Committee and the advantages of Guild membership. Also attending the reception was AAC Co-Chair Steven Kung (A Leading Man).
The festival also screened films by DGA members including Jon M. Chu’s feature Crazy Rich Asians, Daryl Wein’s feature White Rabbit and Ric Burns’ documentary The Chinese Exclusion Act (co-directed with Li-Shin Yu).
