Darren Aronofsky discusses Mother!

September 22, 2017 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests disrupt the tranquil existence of their home in Director Darren Aronofsky’s new dramatic thriller, Mother!

Aronofsky’s film plays with audience expectations in his tale of a lonely confused young wife (Jennifer Lawrence), whose seemingly idyllic life with her older poet husband (Javier Bardem) is thrown into disarray when he allows into their home a strange couple (Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris) who are supposedly fans of his work.

Following the Los Angeles DGA membership screening on September 17, Aronofsky sat down with Director William Friedkin (Killer Joe) to discuss the making of Mother! Aronofsky also spoke about the film in a conversation with Director David O. Russell (Joy) following the September 22 DGA membership screening in New York.

In addition to Mother!, Aronofsky’s credits include the feature films Noah, The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream and Pi; and the short films The Truth Is Hard to Find the New York Times: Brian Denton, Lou Reed & Metallica: The View, No Time, Protozoa, Supermarket Sweep and Fortune Cookie. Aronofsky was nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Films and the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Directing for his 2010 feature Black Swan. He has been a DGA member since 2000.
