2017 Emmy Noms Reception

2017 Emmy Directing Nominees Reception

September 13, 2017 A DGA Special Event

On September 13, the DGA held its annual Primetime Emmy Awards reception at Guild headquarters in Los Angeles. “Tonight it’s my honor and privilege to congratulate the members of our Guild who are being recognized with a Primetime Emmy nomination for their outstanding directorial achievements,” said DGA President Thomas Schlamme in his welcome to the attendees.

“There has been what feels like a lifetime of change in the world of television. The landscape is astronomically bigger ‑ putting greater demand on storytelling which in turn leads to more exciting possibilities. Especially for directors, who are being asked to reach deep into their cinematic toolboxes and use their enormous visual vocabularies to drive the medium to new heights. The work represented by the nominees tonight runs the gamut in tone and content from quirky to dark, satirical to serious, historical to futuristic, all of it compelling, provocative and accomplished and, often, achieved against the odds. Your Guild is extremely proud of your accomplishments and honored to be a part of this annual celebration. It gives us the opportunity to salute you... the impressive and talented group of filmmakers doing the best work on television today.”

Schlamme then turned the floor over to Television Academy CEO and Chairman Hayma Washington, who spoke briefly about the work of the Academy before joining Schlamme and Television Academy Director Peer Group Governors Mark Cendrowski and Gail Mancuso in presenting the official 69th Annual Emmy Award Nomination Certificates to the attending nominees.
