Director Denis Villeneuve discusses Blade Runner 2049

October 8, 2017 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

Phillip K. Dick’s dystopian future Los Angeles returns to the screen in Director Denis Villeneuve’s new sci-fi thriller, Blade Runner 2049.

Villeneuve’s film picks up the story thirty years after the events of Ridley Scott’s classic Blade Runner, as a young LAPD Officer (Ryan Gosling) must go on a quest to find former LAPD blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) after discovering a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 8, Villeneuve sat down with Director Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) to discuss the making of Blade Runner 2049.

In addition to Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve’s filmography includes the feature films Sicario, Enemy, Prisoners, Maelstrom, Incendies and Story of Your Life; as well as the short films 120 Seconds to Get Elected, Next Floor, and Rated R for Nudity. Villeneuve was nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film and the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Directing for his 2016 feature Arrival. He has been a DGA member since 2012.
