Director Damien Chazelle discusses La La Land

December 4, 2016 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

An actress and a musician attempt to navigate life and love in the City of Angels in Director Damien Chazelle’s new musical feature, La La Land.

Set in modern day Los Angeles, Chazelle’s original musical explores the themes of everyday life and the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams through the tale of an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) and a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling), who are both struggling to make ends meet and find success in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 3, Chazelle sat down with Director Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book) to discuss the making of La La Land. Chazelle also discussed the film in a conversation with Director Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) following the December 4 DGA screening in New York.

In addition to La La Land, Chazelle’s credits include the feature films Whiplash and Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. Chazelle became a DGA member in 2015.
