Two children from different eras are connected by their individual quests in Director Todd Haynes’ new drama, Wonderstruck.
Based on Brian Selznick's critically acclaimed novel, Haynes’ film tells the stories of Ben and Rose, two children who are living 50 years apart but both of whom feel something is missing from their lives. For Rose in 1927, it’s a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. For Ben in 1977, it’s the father he has never known. As both set out on their separate quests, their stories unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.
Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 15, Haynes sat down with Director Dan Gilroy (Roman J. Israel, Esq.) to discuss the making of Wonderstruck.
In addition to Wonderstruck, Haynes’ work includes the feature films Poison, Safe, Velvet Goldmine, Far from Heaven, I'm Not There and Carol; an episode of the television series Enlightened; and the entirety of the mini-series Mildred Pierce. He has been a member of the DGA since 2007.
