Benny Boom discusses All Eyez on Me

June 24, 2017 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The rise of a legendary hip-hop artist is retold in Director Benny Boom’s new biopic, All Eyez on Me.

Boom’s film tells the true story of Tupac Shakur, the prolific rapper, actor, poet and activist. Starting with his early days in New York City, the feature charts Shakur’s meteoric rise and ultimate transformation into a cultural icon whose legacy remains vibrant long after his untimely death at the age of 25.

Following the June 24 DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, Boom sat down with Director Jeff Byrd (Rebel) to discuss the making of All Eyez on Me and the challenges of telling the story of such a renowned figure.

In addition to All Eyez on Me, Boom’s credits include the feature films Next Day Air and 48 Hours to Live; the movie for television Dice City; episodes of the television series Tales, Empire, NCIS: Los Angeles and Access Granted; and numerous music videos and shorts. Boom has been a DGA member since 2002.
