  • www.dvpa.com Digital Video Professionals Association - The DVPA is a community of new media enthusiasts and professionals that provides membership to all those who are involved as visual communicators using digital media.
  • www.global-dvc.org Global Digital Videographers Club is a website completely dedicated to video production, discussion, tips and news for global video prosumers and professional videographers using high-end consumer video.
  • www.shortcourses.com - A basic intro to video equipment and terms. Shortcourses also has digital camera info.
  • www.pixelmonger.com/home.html - Scott Billup's site that is devoted to digital filmmaking. Has some interesting DV samples including the David Lynch Sony Playstation commercial done with Sony HD150 mini DV camera. An area called "Hot Gear" has info on digital cameras, lighting, computers and software.
  • www.adamwilt.com - An excellent and thorough technical information resource for DV production and editing. Very good FAQ's.
  • www.dvcentral.org - DVCentral is a digital video information site with news, reviews, and chat rooms, mostly about DV production and geared to Windows-based systems.
  • www.dv.com - DV.com is the web site for DV magazine that provides information and articles on digital video production and post-production.
  • www.2-pop.com - The official Final Cut Pro editing software support site. Final Cut Pro is a Mac-based DV editing software.
  • www.desktopvideo.about.com/compute/desktopvideo - Covers all aspects of digital filmmaking.
  • www.digitalmedianet.com - Digital Media Net has links to resources for online and digital video production.
  • www.dvinfo.net/xl1.htm - Provides a generous amount of info on the Canon XL-1 camera.

  • www.digitaltelevision.com - Has an extensive "Guide to Digital Television" along with articles about webcasts, satellites, and cable distribution.

  • www.icanstream.com - ICanStream features a basic primer (geared toward the consumer market) on how to shoot, edit, compress and publish video on the web.

General Reference
  • www.kodak.com - a good site for film and video. Search "glossary" within Kodak's site for extensive Video Postproduction Terms or Professional Glossary of Terms
  • www.imdb.com - Internet Movie DataBase has become the de facto source for credit checks. Although actors seem to be more faithfully updated than Directors, Roger Ebert is still right when he calls it "the best movie site on the web".
  • www.howstuffworks.com/hdtv.htm - Know the difference between HD-Ready and HD-Capable? This site will help you figure out what to buy between now and 2006 – when 100% of NTSC programs will be digital.
  • www.film.com - An impressive collection of films for the Humanities and Sciences – specializing in educational media for rent or purchase.
  • www.moviemaker.com - The on-line site of the magazine "Moviemaker, focusing on well-known auteurs, new independents, and the film festival circuit. Featuring both on-line articles from the current issue and the ability to order hard copies of back

  • www.badhamcompany.com - (ShotMaster) is designed to organize thoughts, ideas, sequences and storyboards via a set of flexible tools that provide a good place to keep all your notes relative to any scene and uses simple self-drawn diagrams, drag and drop storyboards, or scans of hand-drawn storyboards to help you create a shot list.
  • www.moviemagicweb.com - A networking, cyber-workspace site that allows subscribers (studios) to post production paperwork (travel authorizations, production reports, even storyboards and script revisions) on-line, with document access available to production personnel designated by the subscriber.
  • www.ifilmpro.com - IFilm.pro is a sub-site of IFilm.com and offers searchable production and crew databases, current information on projects in development at the studios, private tracking group boards where self-defined groups of writers and producers can work on scripts and develop projects.
  • www.filmmaker.com - A good site for basic information on new technology in several aspects of production, but at a film school as opposed to industry or professional level. The site includes news groups and provides good links, especially for DV production.
  • www.digitalproducer.com - Digital Producer is an online magazine with tutorials on production and directing.
  • www.efilm.com digital film laboratory processing/transfers -also has hints for optimal production
  • www.creativeplanet.com - Central website for Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling, including the soon-to-be-released Movie Magic Wireless AD. Includes tutorials and demos for the Movie Magic products.
  • www.videoassist.com - An informative site for a digital video assist system by a private company, Cinelogic. Has some good links.
  • www.relaysystems.com - Relay Systems is a bi-directional central nervous system that connects all members of a production team together using the communications equipment they already have and depend on.

Visual Effects Resources

  • www.vfxpro.com - A resource site created by the Visual Effects Society. The "Web Guide" page provides excellent links to a variety of special effects sites and production services.
  • www.quantel.com/dfb - The "dfb" in the URL stands for "Digital Fact Book", which includes a complete glossary of digital technology. It downloads as a PDF file or you can order a hardcopy.
  • www.lbbvfx.com - Only an order form for the "Little Black Book of Visual Effects" ($29.95 plus $8.00 shipping and tax). No on-line edition available.
  • www.ultimatte.com/tech.html - Specific info for a Cameraperson or Lighting Director on photographing Blue/Green Screen virtual sets, plus some useful diagrams for the Grip Department regarding Cyclorama set-up.
  • www.geocities.com/hollywood/makeup/9472/sfx.htm - A layman's guide to basic terms used in Special Effects – in case you're wondering "Why?" and not "How?" I.E.: Short descriptions of "persistence of vision", "Blue Screen", etc.
