LOS ANGELES, CA: The winners of the 2005 Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards and the recipients of the Guild's 2006 Career Achievement Awards were announced tonight during the 58th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Ang Lee won the DGA's Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for Brokeback Mountain. The Guild also bestowed its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, on Director Clint Eastwood.

Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted today announced the DGA’s nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for 2005 in the television categories of Dramatic Series Night, Comedy Series, Musical Variety, Reality Programs, Daytime Serials and Children’s Programs. The winners of all six categories will be announced at the 58th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

Academy Award-winning Director Clint Eastwood to receive Guild’s Highest Tribute at 58th Annual DGA Awards

DGA President Michael Apted announced today that director Clint Eastwood has been selected to receive the Directors Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his distinguished career in motion picture directing. As the Guild’s highest tribute, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Eastwood, one of the industry’s finest practitioners, at the 58th Annual DGA Awards on January 28, 2006.

  • Jerry H. Ziesmer will receive the 2006 Frank Capra Achievement Award which is given to an Assistant Director or Unit Production Manager in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to the Directors Guild of America;

  • Joseph R. Aceti will receive the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Direction; and

  • Donald Jacob will receive the 2006 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award for an Associate Director or Stage Manager in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to the Directors Guild of America. 

All three awards will be given at the 58th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. 

"The strength and unity of the Directors Guild depends on the service and accomplishments of its members, both of which are embodied in these three very special award winners" Apted said. "By honoring their lifetime achievements and contributions to the Guild, we are honoring the lifeblood of our organization – distinguished work and dedicated service.”

LOS ANGELES, CA: Carl Reiner will return as host for the 58th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, DGA President Michael Apted announced today. This year will mark the twentieth time Reiner has hosted the DGA Awards, which will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

 Apted also announced the slate of presenters for the DGA Awards.

The DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally been one of the industry’s most accurate barometers for who will win the Best Director Academy Award.
