LOS ANGELES, CA: The winners of the 2004 Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards and the recipients of the DGA's 2005 Career Achievement Awards were announced tonight at the 57th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

For the nineteenth time, Actor/Director/Comedian Carl Reiner hosted the Awards ceremony before an audience of 1,200 guests. The presenters included: DGA President Michael Apted; Mischa Barton (The O.C.); Jason Bateman (Arrested Development); DGA Board member LeVar Burton; Sandra Oh and Paul Giamatti (Sideways); Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives); Regina King and Kerry Washington (Ray); Diane Lane (Unfaithful); Director Garry Marshall (The Princess Diaries); Ian McShane (Deadwood); Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica); DGA Second Vice President Ed Sherin; Abby Singer; Academy Award® winner Halle Berry (Monster's Ball); DGA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Steven Spielberg; and 77th Annual Academy Award® nominees: Cate Blanchett (The Aviator), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator), Thomas Haden Church (Sideways), Jamie Foxx (Ray and Collateral), Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby), Virginia Madsen (Sideways), Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) and Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby).

The DGA's Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally served as a near-perfect barometer for the Academy Award for Best Director. Only six times since the DGA Award's inception in 1949 has the winner not gone on to receive the Academy Award for Best Director.

The winners of the 2004 Directors Guild of America Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and the recipients of the Guild's 2005 Career Achievement Awards, are:

LOS ANGELES, CA: Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted and Awards Committee Chairperson Howard Storm today announced the DGA's nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for 2004 in the television categories of Dramatic Series Night, Comedy Series, Musical Variety, Daytime Serials and Children's Programs. The winners of all five categories will be announced at the 57th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

"The 2004 DGA Television Nominees represent the broad range of excellence found in television directing today," said DGA President Michael Apted. Gilbert Cates to receive DGA Presidents Award

DGA President Michael Apted announced today that former Directors Guild President Gilbert Cates will be the recipient of the DGA Presidents Award at the 57th Annual DGA Awards dinner on January 29 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The Award, which is given for leadership and extraordinary efforts in enhancing the welfare and image of the Directors Guild of America and the industry, is bestowed only by a unanimous vote of former DGA Presidents and the sitting President.

LOS ANGELES, CA: Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted and Awards Committee Chairperson Howard Storm today announced that DGA National Board Member Herb Adelman will be the recipient of the 2005 Frank Capra Achievement Award, and former DGA National Board Associate Member Stanley M. Faer will be the recipient of the 2005 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award.

"The strength and unity of the Directors Guild depends on the dedicated service and accomplishments of its members, which is embodied in these two very special award winners, Herb Adelman and Stanley Faer," Apted said. "They represent the real heroes of our organization - the individuals who toil behind the scenes to ensure that the economic rights and working conditions of their peers are protected and furthered."

The Capra Award is presented to a DGA Assistant Director or Unit Production Manager in recognition of career achievement in the Industry and service to the Directors Guild of America. The Schaffner Award is presented to a DGA Associate Director or Stage Manager in recognition of career achievement in the Industry and service to the Directors Guild of America.

The awards will be presented to Adelman and Faer at the 57th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Stephen McPherson to receive Diversity Award

DGA President Michael Apted DGA President Michael Apted announced today that ABC Primetime Entertainment President Stephen McPherson will be the recipient of the Directors Guild of America's 2005 Diversity Award at the 57th Annual DGA Awards dinner on January 29. The Diversity Award honors McPherson's outstanding commitment to and leadership in the hiring of women and ethnic minorities in DGA categories. It has been bestowed only three times in DGA history: in 1997 to Bruce Paltrow, John Wells and Christopher Chulack; in 1999 to Steven Bochco; and in 2000 to HBO.
