Based on what happened after the tragic 1991 Crown Heights riots in Brooklyn, this multi-layered film examines the successes and failures in the attempts at conflict resolution in the community as two youth leaders played by Mario Van Peebles (Ali, New Jack City) and Howie Mandel (St. Elsewhere, The Howie Mandel Show) encourage teenagers from the African-American and Hassidic Jewish neighborhood to dialogue. In response, two boys from both cultures struggle with forming a rap group that is both an example and an irritation to their peers and parents. |
