Veteran director Robert M. Young was on hand for a special event screening of the restored director's cut of his first feature, Alambrista!, the 1977 Cannes Film Festival Camera d'Or Award winner. Young discussed this film and its impact on him following the screening with director/moderator Gary Walkow. Alambrista! is a groundbreaking portrayal of the harsh realities of undocumented immigrant life. Recognizing the continuing relevance of the film, a group of Chicano scholars and musicians from Harvard, Stanford and San Francisco State Universities had petitioned the Ford Foundation for funds to help bring this film back to the public again, leading to this new, expanded version of Young's award-winning film.
