The winners of the 2002 Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards and the recipients of the DGA's 2003 Lifetime Achievement Awards were announced tonight at the 55th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

Carl Reiner hosted the Awards ceremony which attracted a record 1,650 guests, including the full slate of presenters: Alan Alda (Betsy's Wedding), Kathy Bates (About Schmidt), Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers), Adrien Brody (The Pianist), LeVar Burton (Blizzard), Gil Cates (A Death in the Family and producer of numerous Academy Awards), Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under), Salma Hayek (Frida), Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), Michael Keaton (Live From Baghdad), Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York), Julianne Moore (The Hours), Joe Pesci (Goodfellas), John C. Reilly (Chicago, Gangs of New York, The Hours), Rob Reiner (The American President), Martin Sheen (The West Wing), Steven Spielberg (Catch Me If You Can) and Renée Zellweger (Chicago).

The DGA's Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally served as a near-perfect barometer for the Academy Award for Best Director. Only five times since the DGA Award's inception in 1949 has the winner not gone on to receive the Academy Award for Best Director.
The winners of the 2002 Directors Guild of America Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and the recipients of the Guild's 2003 Lifetime Achievement Awards, are:
