DGA PAC Chair Taylor Hackford - click image for larger view
In 2001, we launched a Guild-wide effort to put "financial teeth" into our Political Action Committee (PAC), including the creation of a Leadership Council. We did this in recognition of the reality that we must be heard in Washington, D.C., where a growing number of issues will impact all Guild members. We want the DGA PAC to reflect the same independence, unity, and power in Washington that the Guild does in our industry. Thanks to the collaboration of Leadership Council Co-chair Paris Barclay, the DGA PAC is reinvigorated and well on the way toward that goal. Last year the DGA PAC:
  • Raised more than $150,000, with 107 members of the Leadership Council contributing $135,150.
  • Contributed $80,500 to 57 members of Congress and three members of the California Legislature. All but two of those members returned to Congress in January 2003.

The strength of the DGA PAC and the Guild's legislative agenda are intertwined. That is why we have created this special DGA PAC page in your magazine. We will use this page to communicate with you about our legislative efforts to protect your economic and creative interests — from copyright protection and Internet piracy, to health care, and runaway production. So please look for this page in each issue for news of our PAC's progress.

–Taylor Hackford
