DGA Magazine took top honors again in this year's national Folio Editorial Excellence Awards. Competing in the category, "Entertainment Business," the magazine won the Gold for its Summer 2001 issue. Second-place Silver was awarded to American Cinematographer.
The prestigious Editorial Excellence Awards are unique in that publishing professionals judge magazines on how well they achieve their editorial mission. More than 700 national publications competed in different categories.
This is the second time DGA Magazine has been entered into the competition and the second time it has won the Gold, according to its editor, Ted Elrick. Last year the magazine's July 2000 issue won Gold and the November 2000 tied for Silver with American Theater.
DGA Magazine's mission is to spotlight the significant contributions to the industry and to the craft of DGA directors and members of their teams, as well as to keep members abreast of numerous issues impacting their profession.
Among the stories in the Gold-winning Summer 2001 issue were profiles of directors Michael Bay (Pearl Harbor), Mark Rydell (James Dean) and episodic television icon Lou Antonio; results and analysis of a landmark residual study; and the unusual directing technique of Ken Loach.
The award was presented on October 30 in New York City.
