DIRECTOR RICHARD SCHICKEL'S
MEN WHO MADE THE MOVIES RETURNS

Director Richard Schickel's acclaimed documentary series, Men Who Made the Movies, originally aired in 1973 on PBS, will begin running as a five-part series on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in July.
The series premieres with a new documentary, Sam Fuller, featuring never-before-seen footage from an interview Schickel conducted with the late director in Paris in 1989.
The other four documentaries Howard Hawks, King Vidor, George Cukor and Raoul Walsh while part of the original 1973 series, have been entirely recut with new clips and narration provided by director Sidney Pollack.
"The original PBS series was rushed, and I was never satisfied with the way it turned out," Schickel said. "It disappeared for a long time. Its only distribution was to film schools and libraries by the DGA and MOMA. Now, TCM has given me the opportunity to bring it back."
