Director Richard Schickel's acclaimed documentary series, Men Who Made the Movies, originally aired in 1973 on PBS, will begin running as a five-part series on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in July.

The series premieres with a new documentary, Sam Fuller, featuring never-before-seen footage from an interview Schickel conducted with the late director in Paris in 1989.

The other four documentaries — Howard Hawks, King Vidor, George Cukor and Raoul Walsh — while part of the original 1973 series, have been entirely recut with new clips and narration provided by director Sidney Pollack.

"The original PBS series was rushed, and I was never satisfied with the way it turned out," Schickel said. "It disappeared for a long time. Its only distribution was to film schools and libraries by the DGA and MOMA. Now, TCM has given me the opportunity to bring it back."
