SFCC Summer Workshop

Moderators Beau Bonneau and John Erlendson kicked off the San Francisco Coordinating Committee's Summer Workshop on Saturday, June 30. Executive Committee Chairman David Hakim had invited the pair to the Presidio to discuss SAG regulations and other topics related to actors, background players and their contracts.

A dozen local members attended the workshop, which quickly turned into a roundtable discussion as working situations and horror stories were discussed and analyzed. Both moderators gave informative viewpoints derived from their extensive experience. Erlendson is an agent and Bonneau is one of the top casting executives in the Bay Area.

The first of a new series of educational events for the Bay Area membership, the workshop followed the basic format for all subsequent workshops: a three-hour Saturday-morning event with coffee and bagels, ending about midday so that participants will have the rest of their afternoon free. [The SFCC also presents two educational seminars per year--generally all-day events that include lunch as well as morning snacks.]

Workshop evaluation forms filled in by members showed that the group was almost unanimous in giving it highest marks: all of them praised both content and quality, while a few members hoped for more comprehensive coverage of future topics. Planned for the future are an in-depth inspection of Shotmaker and a pyrotechnics demonstration [including a "full burn," in which a stuntman wearing a protective suit is set afire from head to foot].
