Industry Alliance Members in Support of the
U.S. Independent Film and Television
Production Incentive Act of 2001

Although not a formal member of the Alliance, the mayors are active supporters. The 69th Conference of USCM adopted the "Runaway Film Production Resolution," in support of the wage and tax credit and related efforts. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are about 1,100 such cities in the country today.


PROJECTS SHOT IN CANADA WITH U.S. SETTINGS

Listed below is a very small sampling of some recent U.S. productions with U.S. story settings that were lured to Canada by that government’s tax incentives. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, runaway productions represent a loss to the U.S. of thousands of jobs and as much as $10 billion per year.

    In Cutter’s Gap, Tennessee, an idealistic teacher struggles against backward thinking.
  • Color of Courage - Vancouver
    A story about a black family who moves into an all-white suburb of Detroit.
  • Common Ground - Toronto
    Three stories about gay life in a small town in Connecticut.
  • Courage to Love - Montreal
    Based on the life of a free woman of color in pre–Civil War New Orleans.
  • The Crossing - Toronto
    General George Washington crosses the Delaware River to defeat the Hessians in New Jersey.
  • Dash and Lilly - Toronto
    Lillian Hellman and Dashiel Hammett in Hollywood and New York.
  • The Day Reagan Was Shot - Toronto
    About the attempted assassination of President Reagan and the backstage battle for control of the White House.
  • Execution of Justice - Toronto
    The story of the murder of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk.
  • Ground Zero - Vancouver
    Two students, who built a nuclear device that winds up in the hands of terrorists, work with the government to prevent the destruction of the San Francisco Bay area.
  • Hendrix - Toronto
