Jack Shea reelected DGA President
New National Board and Slate of Officers also chosen
On June 23 veteran television and motion picture director Jack Shea was reelected to a third two-year term as DGA president by acclamation at the Guild's biennial national convention held at DGA National Headquarters in Los Angeles.
In addition to electing Shea, 118 delegates representing approximately 12,200 DGA members, elected a new slate of officers and National Board of Directors.
Former DGA President Gilbert Cates was reelected Secretary-Treasurer, Ed Sherin was reelected National Vice President and Martha Coolidge was reelected First Vice President.
Also elected were Second Vice President Larry Auerbach, Third Vice President Paris Barclay, Fourth Vice President William Brady, Fifth Vice President John Frankenheimer, Sixth Vice President Casey Childs and Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Scott Berger.
Newly elected members of the Guild's National Board include Steven Soderbergh and Michael Apted.
"I am extremely honored that the Guild's membership has seen fit to reelect me to a third term as their president," Shea said. "I am proud of our accomplishments during my first two terms and I remain committed to representing the interests of all DGA members as we tackle the many challenges that face us in the coming years. Our highest immediate priority will be the negotiation of new DGA contracts in 2002 that protect the economic and creative rights of directors and members of the directorial team."
Shea added that "the level of employment for women and minority DGA members in our industry is nowhere near where it should be, and the Guild remains committed to fighting for increased diversity in our industry."
Shea has served on the DGA Directors Council and the National Board in various capacities for 39 years, including three terms as vice president.
