for Cabaret, though he was beat out for the DGA Award by Francis Ford Coppola's
The Godfather. Still, Fosse did not walk home empty-handed from the DGA Awards; he won for Musical/Variety (and later three Emmys) for his direction of the TV special
Liza With a Z.
