This autumn, the DGA Special Projects Committee’s Global Cinema Series presented a pair of screenings in honor of two giants of 20th Century cinema: Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007) and Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007). On September 19th, the first half of this special event featured Antonioni’s Blow-Up (1966), which follows the consequences of a nihilistic, wealthy fashion photographer who believes he has accidentally photographed a murder.
Following a welcome by Global Cinema Sub-Committee Co-Chair Victoria Hochberg, film historian and critic, Leonard Maltin, spoke to the audience about the context for viewing the film and Antonioni’s place in 20th Century Cinema history.
