Good things in small packages were the order of the evening on Monday, May 14, when the Special Projects Committee’s Global Cinema Series presented a screening of movies from around the world nominated for the 2006 Academy Award® in the live action short films category.

Following the welcome from Special Projects Global Cinema subcommittee co-chair Victoria Hochberg, the audience was treated to a viewing of two Spanish films: Binta y la Gran Idea (Binta and the Great Idea) directed by Javier Fesser, and Eramos Pocos (One Too Many) directed by Borja Cobeaga; Denmark’s Helmer & Son directed by Søren Pilmark; the Australian film The Saviour directed by Peter Templeman; and the 2006 Oscar®-winner from the USA, West Bank Story directed by Ari Sandel.

After the screening, Director Ari Sandel and Jon Bloom, Chair of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, engaged in discussion about the art of the short film moderated by Global Cinema subcommittee co-chair Chuck Workman.
