On Sunday, May 20, 2007, DGA members attended an all-day seminar dealing with the challenges, responsibilities and rewards of working in natural settings.

The Working in Challenging Locations panel explored the subject with Directors Brady Connell (The Amazing Race, Survivor), Karen Gaviola (CSI: Miami, Lost), Tony Sacco (Treasure Hunters), Simon Wincer (Free Willy, Lonesome Dove) and 2nd AD Meta Valentic (Lost). The moderator was Emmy and DGA Award-nominated Director Jim Drake (SCTV Network, The Jamie Foxx Show).

The second panel, Creating and Maintaining an Environmentally Responsible Set, featured Lisa Day, Vice President of Corporate and Community Affairs at Participant Productions; Gretchen Lewotsky, Vice President of State & Local Public Affairs and Environmental Operations for Fox Entertainment Group; and Mike Slavich Manager of Environmental Initiatives, Warner Bros. Entertainment. The moderator was Director Hart Bochner (PCU, High School High), who also serves on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Media Association.

The final panel on How Filmmakers Portray the Environment featured panelists Lesley Chilcott, Producer of the 2006 Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth; Harry Wiland, Emmy Award-winning Director and Co-Executive Producer of Edens Lost & Found; and Writer/Director Steven Zaillian (Searching for Bobby Fischer, All the King's Men), with DGA Special Projects Committee chair Jeremy Kagan (Heroes, The Big Fix) moderating the discussion.
