The DGA's Constitution and Bylaws state that each year there shall be annual meetings of the Guild membership held in Los Angeles and New York. The focus of these meetings is to provide members with information about their Guild while simultaneously giving them the opportunity to share their thoughts with the National Board and discuss Guild issues with members of all categories. On Tuesday, June 7, 2005, the Los Angeles meeting was held at the DGA Headquarters and on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, East Coast members attended their meeting in the Guild’s New York building.
At both meetings, DGA President, Michael Apted gave the annual President’s report on the state of the Guild. The New York meeting also featured a special address from DGA National Vice President Steven Soderbergh. DGA First Vice President Martha Coolidge presented the financial report in Los Angeles, while DGA Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Scott Berger did so in New York. DGA Board Member/Special Projects Committee Chair Jeremy Kagan gave a report on Special Projects activities to the Los Angeles members, and East Coast Special Projects Chair David Jones delivered the New York version. DGA Board Member/PAC Leadership Chair Taylor Hackford issued the PAC report, which was also given by Board Member Gary Donatelli in New York. Board Member John Rich and DGA Second Vice President Ed Sherin reported on the DGA Foundation activities in Los Angeles and New York respectively. On the East Coast, Council Reports were given by AD/UPM Chair Mary Rae Thewlis and AD/SM/PA Chair Dennis Mazzocco; and AD/UPM/TC Chair Kim Kurumada and AD/SM/PA Chair Scott Rindenow did so on the West Coast. DGA-Producer Pension and Health Plans CEO Mack Clapp gave the Pension and Health Plans report at both meetings. In addition, National Executive Director Jay D. Roth, and other members of the Guild's management team and staff were available to provide information or follow-up on specific questions from members.
Both meetings were followed by a cocktail reception and a chance for members to catch-up with their colleagues.
