On Saturday, December 1, 2007, the Special Projects Committee and the AD/UPM Runaway Production Committee presented the seminar “Film Incentives: How to Make Your Film in the USA” in Theatre 2 of the Los Angeles headquarters.

The event was designed for DGA members to learn how to profit from the latest state film incentives and featured representatives of film commissions from 12 states, and materials from three more.

AD/UPM Runaway Production Committee chair Liz Ryan, DGA Assistant Executive Director of Government and International Affairs Kathy Garmezy and, California Film Commission Director Amy Lemisch gave an update on legislation and related efforts in the fight against runaway production.

The audience got an overview of current state programs in the panel discussion “The Best Incentives and Where to Find Them” with Axium International Production Executive Dama Chasle; Entertainment Partners VP of Business Development Joseph Chianese; Tax Credits, LLC President Bruce Deichl; Executive Producer Mick Flannigan; and Disney Corporate Tax Department VP of Film Production Planning Mary Ann Hughes. The discussion was moderated by AD/UPM/TC Council Chair Cleve Landsberg.

The final presentation of the day was a case study of the pilot of the Showtime series Brotherhood with Director Phillip Noyce and Executive Producer Elizabeth Guber Stephen, moderated by Ryan.
