Holly Hunter won her second Emmy Award for best actress as a Houston mother who conspires with her sleazy brother (Beau Bridges) to hire a hit man to kill her daughter's rival for a spot on the cheerleading team. Full of gall, jealousy, domineering arrogance and creepy sexuality, the actress enlarges on Jane Robinson's teleplay, which was based on the court transcripts and bugged conversations. Ritchie guided this production with such a deft seriocomic hand that the outlandish actual details mesh into one of TV's great examples of the truth being stranger than fiction.
