Los Angeles – The Directors Guild of America today announced that BMW will be the Exclusive Automotive Sponsor of the 66th Annual DGA Awards, which will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
As one of the signature events of awards season, the DGA Awards continues to grow in size and scale every year. The DGA Awards’ partnership with BMW will create new dimensions to the evening, heightening the experience for Guild members and industry leaders while expanding on a 66-year tradition of celebrating directorial excellence.
“The DGA welcomes BMW as we honor the most outstanding directorial achievements of the year in film, television and commercials,” said DGA President Paris Barclay. “As one of the most prestigious ceremonies in the entertainment industry, the DGA Awards sets the bar higher each year. Our partnership with BMW, a premium global brand and longstanding supporter of the entertainment industry both on and off screen, will help make our evening even more spectacular than it already is.”
The DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally been one of the industry’s most accurate barometers for who will win the Best Director Academy Award; only seven times since the DGA Awards began in 1948 has the Feature Film winner not gone on to win the corresponding Academy Award.
Nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film will be announced on January 7, 2014; nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television and Commercials will be announced on January 9, 2014; and nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentaries will be announced on January 13, 2014. Directors Guild of America (DGA)
Since its founding in 1936, the Directors Guild of America has fought to protect the economic and creative rights of its members; secured their ability to financially benefit from the reuse of their work; created strong pension and health plans; and established jurisdiction in new technologies and distribution platforms. Today the DGA represents more than 15,000 directors and members of the directorial team working in film, television, documentaries, commercials, and new media.
