Viacom Media Networks Music Group - Spectrum Director Diversity Program Seeks Applicants

June 30, 2014

On June 30, Viacom’s Music Group, which includes MTV, VH1, CMT, and LOGO, announced the launch of a new initiative, the VMN Spectrum Director Diversity Program, which will provide training for diverse candidates interested in gaining experience in both scripted and reality programming. Additionally, the program will look to assist in the professional development of new creative talent, particularly women and ethnic minorities.

A maximum of four participants will be selected for the episodic director shadowing program and a maximum of eight will be selected for the non-dramatic director shadowing program. The selected participants will receive a weekly stipend and have the opportunity to observe, consult and be mentored by several directors from various Viacom Music Group series or programs, with the goal of providing exposure and experience in the production process from the prep to the post show work.

The participants would also have the opportunity to shadow the series’ directors first hand, allowing them the opportunity to not only observe but learn different creative approaches on a number of popular programs currently found on MTV, VH1, CMT and LOGO.

Prospective applicants with a background in television, theatrical features, documentaries, music videos or commercials are encouraged to apply. All applicants must complete an online application and submit a resume and reel with at least one project directed by the applicant (episodic TV, commercials, short films, music videos or digital media programs). Additionally, all participants will be required to be a current Directors Guild of America member in good standing.

Applications will be accepted from July 1 to August 15, 2014.  Senior development and programming executives from MTV, VH1, CMT and LOGO will review the applications and select candidates to take part in this program for one year which will begin in October of 2014. The program will take place in various cities where VMN productions are based, including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Nashville among others.
