Director Stephen Gaghan discusses Gold

December 14, 2016 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles & New York

An unlikely pair gets more than they bargained for after striking it rich in Director Stephen Gaghan’s new adventure drama, Gold.

Based on a true incident, Gaghan’s film tells the story of Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey), an unlucky businessman who teams up with geologist Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramírez) to search for gold deep in the uncharted jungles of Indonesia. But after making the purported find of the century, their operation draws the attention of both the FBI and the Indonesian military.

Following the December 2 DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, Gaghan sat down with Director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) to discuss the making of Gold. Gaghan also discussed the film in a conversation with Director Scott Cooper (Black Mass) following the DGA screening in New York on December 14.

In addition to Gold, Gaghan’s credits include the feature films Syriana and Abandon; and the movies for television White City and Metro. He has been a DGA member since 2001.
