Director J.J. Abrams: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens

December 20, 2015 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The battle between the light and dark sides of The Force continues in Director J.J. Abrams’ new feature Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

Abrams’ new installment of the saga set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away reunites us with old friends such as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca, and introduces us to new characters such as Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren, some years after the incidents in Return of the Jedi. When the freedom of the galaxy is once again threatened by the rise of an evil new group called The First Order, heroes – both old and new – must rise to take on the challenge of those seeking to turn the balance of The Force back to the dark side.

Following the DGA screening in Los Angeles on December 20, Abrams spoke about the joys and challenges of taking on the Star Wars universe In a conversation with Director Lawrence Kasdan (Darling Companion), who also served as a screenwriter of The Force Awakens as well as Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

In addition to Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Abrams’ directorial filmography includes the feature films Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek, Super 8 and Star Trek Into Darkness; the movie for television Anatomy of Hope; the pilots of the television series Lost and Undercovers; and episodes of the television series Felicity and Alias. He has been a member of the DGA since 1998.
