Director Tim Burton reveals the outrageous true story of one of the most epic art frauds in history in his new feature Big Eyes.
Burton’s film takes place in the late 1950s and early 1960s where painter Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) rose to fame and revolutionized popular art with his paintings of big-eyed children. However, the truth is that the works were actually created by his wife Margaret (Amy Adams), who in the light of the wild success of the work undergoes an awakening as an artist while dealing with her relationship with her husband who took credit for it all.
Following the DGA membership screening in New York on December 13, Burton spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black 3).
In addition to Big Eyes, Burton’s filmography includes the feature films Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows, Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks!, Ed Wood, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Beetlejuice, and Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
Burton has been a DGA member since 1984.
