Brian Helgeland: Legend

October 15, 2015 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The city of London falls prey to identical twin gangsters in Director Brian Helgeland’s new crime drama Legend.

In Helgeland’s take on this true crime tale, Tom Hardy plays both Ronald and Reginald Kray, two of the most notorious criminals in British history. The film details both the relationship that bound together these two distinctly different personalities, and charts their gruesome career from their rise to power as they carved out an organized crime empire in the East End of London in the 1950s and 1960s, to their ultimate downfall on the cusp of the 1970s.

Helgeland spoke about the challenges of bringing this true story to the screen in a conversation with Director Antoine Fuqua (Southpaw) following the DGA screening in Los Angeles on October 15.

In addition to Legend, Helgeland's work includes the feature films 42, The Order, A Knight's Tale, Payback; and the Tales from the Crypt episode "A Slight Case of Murder.” He has been a member of the DGA since 1997.
