Shawn Levy: This Is Where I Leave You

September 21, 2014 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

Four grown siblings are forced to spend a week together with their mother in Director Shawn Levy’s family comedy, This Is Where I Leave You.

Based on the book by Jonathan Tropper, Levy’s film tells the story of the adult children of the Altman clan, who have all moved away to get on with their lives and away from each other. After returning to their childhood home due to the death of their father, they are held hostage by the convention of ‘sitting shiva’ and have to deal with a motley assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens, and their over-sharing mother.

Levy spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with his lead actor, Director Jason Bateman (Bad Words) after the DGA screening in Los Angeles on September 21.

In addition to This Is Where I Leave You, Levy’s filmography includes the features The Internship, Date Night, Night at the Museum and Big Fat Liar; the movies for television Family Trap, Little Brother and Joint Custody; the pilot for the television series Pepper Dennis; and episodes of the series The Famous Jett Jackson, Lassie, So Weird and The Secret World of Alex Mack. Levy has been a member of the DGA since 1996.
