David Dobkin: The Judge

October 19, 2014 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

A lawyer has to defend his estranged father against a murder charge in Director David Dobkin’s new film, The Judge.

In the film, Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) is a high-powered attorney who returns to his childhood home for a visit with his estranged family. While he is there, he has to take the case of his father (Robert Duvall), the town’s judge who is accused of murder, whilst simultaneously reengaging with the family he walked away from years before.

Dobkin discussed the making of The Judge in a conversation with Director Aaron Schneider (Get Low) after the DGA screening in Los Angeles on October 19.

In addition to The Judge, Dobkin’s filmography includes the features Wedding Crashers, The Change-Up, Shanghai Knights, Clay Pigeons and the pilot for the series Friends with Benefits. He has been a member of the DGA since 1997.
