David Ayer: Fury

October 26, 2014 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The team members of a lone U.S. tank fight for their lives during a mission behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany in Director David Ayer’s gritty WWII drama Fury.

The film follows the exploits of a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt), who commands a Sherman tank and its five-man crew as the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre in April 1945. They find themselves out-numbered and out-gunned on a deadly mission behind enemy lines, with a rookie team member thrust into their platoon. Somehow Wardaddy and his men must overcome overwhelming odds in their attempt to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

Following the DGA screening in Los Angeles on October 26, Ayer spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with Director William Friedkin (Killer Joe).

In addition to Fury, Ayer’s filmography includes the feature films Sabotage, End of Watch, Street Kings, and Harsh Times. He joined the DGA in 2007.
