Successful Writer/Director Relationships in Television

May 19, 2012 A DGA and WGA Women’s Committees Event:

The DGA Women’s Steering Committee (WSC) and the Writers Guild of America, West’s (WGAw) Committee of Women Writers came together for seminar at WGAw headquarters on May 19. The event, Successful Writer/Director Relationships in Television sought to provide guidance on how directors and writers can effectively collaborate.

The panel consisted of Director Lesli Linka Glatter, whose credits include episodes of True Blood and Pretty Little Liars; Director Rosemary Rodriguez and Writer Michelle King, who work together on The Good Wife; and Director Gwyneth Horder-Payton and Writers Nicole Yorkin and Dawn Prestwich, who work together on The Killing. Director Angela Robinson (True Blood, Hung) served as the moderator of a conversation that covered topics such as the importance of setting the tone for a series with the pilot, what writer/producers look for in directors, and the needs and expectations of both writers and directors in episodic television.
